Teen Found Dead of Apparent Hanging at Grant County School

MARION, Ind. (AP) _ A north central Indiana school district says it’s investigating the suicide of a seventh grader at a junior high school but there’s no sign the girl had been bullied.

The Marion Community Schools said in a statement Monday that despite speculation about a connection to bullying, there was no immediate sign of bullying. Its investigation was continuing.

District spokeswoman Patricia Gibson says the death occurred Monday at McCulloch Junior High School.

The district says that after consulting with the Indiana Department of Education, it decided to keep students in school on a modified schedule instead of sending some home early to empty houses. Some parents picked up their children at school before dismissal.

Counseling also was provided at the school.
