City Using Smoke to Find Sewer Leaks

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO):  Fort Wayne City Utilities will be “smoke testing” sewer lines in many neighborhoods throughout the Summit City beginning Monday, August 26th.

The area is bounded by Stellhorn Road and Rothman Road, just east of St. Joe Road and west of Laymeyer Road.

Crews will blow smoke into manholes to test sections of sewer and storm lines to check for cracks and leaks.  The testing will cover more than 200,000 feet of pipe and should take about eight weeks. Therefore, don't be alarmed if you see smoke coming out manholes and inlets or out of the ground.
