Broken Pledge To IPFW Strips Donors Name From Bridge

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A pledge to IPFW has turned into a broken promise.

In 2003, Donald Willis pledged $3 million to IPFW to help offset the funding for the walkway across Crescent Avenue. In exchange, IPFW formally named it the Willis Family Bridge. However they're now saying he has't made good on the contribution.

It's reported the last payment made to the university was in 2006. Colleen Dixon, director of advancement services at IPFW told the Journal Gazette the intentions were good, but the follow through never happened. The contribution from Willis was said to have been earmarked for the bridge, for business, music and education scholarships, as well as to establish an endowed chair in entrepreneurship.

Dixon said the school is seeking donors.
