Red Cross Opens Shelters in Noble and Jay Counties

NOBLE COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO): Flooding on some northeastern Indiana lakes has forced residents to evacuate their homes and now, the Red Cross is stepping in.

At least four homes on the West Lakes near Rome City have voluntarily evacuated after water levels rose over the weekend. Other homes were evacuated because their sewage systems weren't working properly.

The Red Cross has established a shelter in both Kendallville for affected residents in the West Lake community at Crosspointe Family Church of the Nazarene, located at 205 High Pointe Crossing.

In Jay County, a shelter is open today from 2 to 6 pm at the Jay County Court House.

As of yesterday, the Red Cross has opened 7 emergency shelters and deployed over 100 disaster workers to take care of flooding throughout Indiana.
