Downtown Improvement District Extended 10 More Years

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Fort Wayne City Council has extended the Downtown Improvement District's operation funding.

For the next 10 years, the districts goal will be to provide goods and services, adjust boundries and increase the budget to grow downtown areas. The Journal Gazette says more than 70% of the property owners within the boundaries support the continued support.

The district is expanding to include the future Cityscape Flats and the riverfront development. The area collects fee's from businesses in the district. During this year's assessments, a total of $300,000 was collected overall. However they said with the new assessment, that number should increase to $348,000 per year. The City of Fort Wayne contributes $150,000 a year, as well as $50,000 from the county.
