2 Campers Found on Indiana Guard Base Face Charges

EDINBURGH, Ind. (AP) _ Police are seeking criminal charges against two campers who were found on the Indiana National Guard’s Camp Atterbury.

Bartholomew County sheriff’s Maj. Todd Noblitt says the two men, ages 19 and 20, were found Wednesday after a ground and air search for several hours by police officers and soldiers of the Atterbury grounds near Edinburgh.

Noblitt tells The Republic of Columbus that one of the men called his mother about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, saying he and his friend had become lost in the woods and that his cellphone was dying. Authorities canceled combat training that was planned in a suspected location of the men.

Noblitt says both men face trespassing charges since they were in a restricted area. They also face marijuana possession charges.
