Judge Issues Gag Order in Indiana Fetal Murder Case

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ An Indianapolis judge has issued a gag order in the case of a pregnant Chinese immigrant charged with killing her daughter by drinking rat poison in a failed suicide attempt.

The Indianapolis Star reported Friday that Marion Superior Judge Sheila A. Carlisle has barred attorneys in the case of Bei Bei Shuai from making any statement outside the courtroom that could prejudice jurors in Shuai's trial.

The 36-year-old Shanghai native was eight months pregnant when she ate rat poison in December 2010 after her boyfriend broke up with her. She gave birth to Angel Shuai on Dec. 31, but the baby died three days after being delivered.

Shuai was charged with murder and attempted feticide in 2011. Her trial is scheduled to begin Sept. 3.
