200 pigs die, 100 survive when truck overturns…

YOUNG AMERICA, Ind. (AP) _ Authorities say 200 pigs died when the livestock truck they were riding in overturned on a northern Indiana road.

The Logansport Pharos-Tribune reports about 100 of the 300 pigs on the truck survived the crash Wednesday on Indiana 18 near the town of Young America, about 55 miles north of Indianapolis.

Galveston Fire Department volunteers and local farmers rounded up the pigs that were running free following the crash.

Cass County sheriff's deputies say the semitrailer driven by Chad Folkens of Iowa was going around a curve on the highway when a mechanical malfunction and the shifting load caused the truck to roll over. Folkens wasn't injured.
