LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) _ A defense attorney has formally filed an insanity defense for a man charged with killing a fellow Purdue University student in a campus classroom.
The notice was filed on behalf of 23-year-old Cody Cousins on Thursday in a Tippecanoe County court.
Court records say Judge Thomas Busch appointed two mental health experts Friday to examine Cousins, who told the judge a couple weeks ago that he's been prescribed medication to control his moods and treat schizophrenia. Busch has also said he'll appoint a third expert.
Cousins of Warsaw, Indiana, is charged with fatally shooting and stabbing 21-year-old Andrew Boldt of West Bend, Wisconsin, in January inside a classroom on the West Lafayette campus.
Defense attorney Kirk Freeman also has requested a change of venue.
