INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ A judge has not yet ruled on whether to relocate the murder trial of a man charged with killing a fellow Purdue University student in a campus classroom.
Court records say Tippecanoe County Judge Thomas Busch on Friday appointed experts from an area mental health care agency to examine 23-year-old Cody Cousins, whose lawyer filed a formal insanity defense this week.
But he's taken under advisement defense attorney Kirk Freeman's motion to move the trial because of news coverage in the Lafayette area and attention that was drawn this month when Cousins said he was on medication for schizophrenia.
Cousins of Warsaw, Indiana, is charged with fatally shooting and stabbing 21-year-old Andrew Boldt of West Bend, Wisconsin, in January inside a basement classroom on the West Lafayette campus.
