MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) _ The director of the Muncie Animal Shelter says it has placed the 632 animals that authorities seized from a storefront.

Director Phil Peckinpaugh tells The Star Press that the shelter by Friday evening had found homes for all 632. The last are expected to leave the shelter Monday.

The animals seized Wednesday including a foot-long alligator, snakes, guinea pigs, hamsters, rats, birds, lizards, three hermit crabs, a frog and 541 mice.

Some of the animals, including parakeets and two hedgehogs, were being adopted locally by people experienced in caring for those breeds.

Peckinpaugh says the alligator and other reptiles are being taken in by a Hamilton County man who provides educational programs for schools.

He says the mice will become meals at a raptor rehabilitation center.
