Man Gets 10 Years for Beating Pregnant Girlfriend

MADISON, Ind. (AP) _ A southern Indiana man who pleaded guilty to beating and strangling his pregnant girlfriend has been sentenced to more than 10 years in prison.

A Jefferson County judge sentenced 25-year-old Dominic Beaven on Wednesday after the Madison man pleaded guilty to battery, strangulation, domestic battery and invasion of privacy.

The Madison Courier reports that Beaven was charged after a January argument with his then-girlfriend turned violent.

Police were called to the couple's apartment after Beaven choked the pregnant woman, picked her up by the neck, slammed her against a door and threatened to kill her and her unborn child.

The woman testified that the altercation escalated after Beaven hit her son in the neck with a fruit snack and took her cellphone.
