Indiana Celebrates Archaeology Month

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WOWO): Indiana has a rich–and long history. State officials want Hoosiers to step back and learn more about where and how Hoosiers lived.

September is Indiana Archaeology Month and a number of events are planned by universities, museums and various organizations. The state’s utopian communities is a focus.

During the early decades of the 19th century, some people attempted to establish utopian communities in Indiana.

For example, the Shakers established Busro or West Union in Knox County, and New Harmony in Posey County was the site of two early-American utopian communities.

A schedule of events for this year’s Archaeology Month can be found at dnr.IN.gov/historic.
