INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – A state agency says most Indiana counties have established teams to examine child deaths since a law requiring their formation took effect last year.
The State Department of Health says 79 of Indiana's 92 counties have established local or regional child fatality review teams aimed at finding out why the children died and to determine possible prevention steps.
The department says seven counties are either working on implementing a team or have an unverified one. Teams haven't yet been established in six other counties _ Clark, Floyd, Fulton, Orange, Pike and Spencer.
The Indianapolis Star reports (http://indy.st/148WwBW ) the review teams in Allen and Jackson counties discovered some children dying because of unsafe sleep practices, such as youngsters sleeping in beds with parents or sleeping on their stomachs.
