INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Federal prosecutors say a grand jury has indicted six Detroit residents for kidnapping two Indianapolis teenagers and holding them for ransom.

Prosecutors in Indiana federal court said Wednesday that 38-year-old John Thomas and five others face two counts of kidnapping and one count of conspiracy to commit kidnapping. Prosecutors have said Thomas and the others kidnapped the teenagers because their older sister stole a large quantity of narcotics and money from them. Authorities have said the sister was Thomas' ex-girlfriend.

Detroit police freed the 16-year-old boy, and the 13-year-old girl was freed by her alleged abductors hours after her abduction last month.

Prosecutors say the captors cut the boy's fingers to compel him to give his older sister's location.

All five defendants were charged March 4.
