SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) _ The owners of South Bend's tallest building are planning a $30 million overhaul that will reopen its hotel and convert office space into 83 apartments.
The 25-story downtown building formerly known as Chase Tower has been vacant since July as the real estate investment company that bought it through foreclosure last year worked on renovation plans.
Property manager Mark Neal tells the South Bend Tribune (http://bit.ly/1iuvKdW ) that the project will involve a complete interior demolition and redevelopment.
Some $15 million will go toward remodeling the tower's 183-room hotel, which is to open in early 2017 under Starwood Hotels' Aloft brand. An overhaul of the parking garage and construction of apartments will cost another $15 million.
