EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) _ A medical school campus in downtown Evansville will soon start taking shape now that on-site work on the $60 million is underway.
Officials broke ground Friday on the Academic Health Science and Research Center only a week after the State Budget Committee gave its final approval.
The Academic Health Science and Research Center will be operated by the Indiana University School of Medicine, the University of Southern Indiana and the University of Evansville.
The Evansville Courier & Press reports (http://bit.ly/1OWgYsW ) Mayor Lloyd Winnecke told those gathered for the groundbreaking that the medical campus will become “a redefining moment'' for southwestern Indiana and adjacent areas of Kentucky and Illinois when it opens in early 2018.
He says it's projected to give the region a $340 million economic boost by 2020.
