South Bend Could Get First Official Dog Park

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WOWO): A dog park could be coming to South Bend.

A group of local dog owners organized as a group called “Dog Park for South Bend” launched a website, a Facebook page and petition drive recently in an effort to get the city to agree. For the last two months, dog owners have used the fenced lot in the 500 block of Niles Avenue as a makeshift dog park, but the property will go to auction next month.

The South Bend Tribune reports the city budgeted 150-thousand dollares for a potential dog park under the new parks master plan. At that budget, the starting auction price for the Niles Avenue and Madison Center is out of the price range. The city has instead identified a potential dog park within Rum Village Park.
