Some Fort Wayne speeding tickets may be invalid

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Some speeding tickets given out in Fort Wayne may now be null and void.

The Indiana Supreme Court has upheld a ruling by the state’s Court of Appeals that a traffic ordinance in Carmel, similar to one used in Fort Wayne, improperly duplicated state law, according to the Journal Gazette. That means Fort Wayne officials will now be reviewing the city’s ordinance to figure out if they’re in compliance.

The ordinance in question lets the city collect a “city fine” for speeding tickets rather than the state.

City spokesman John Perlich says officers have used the city ordinance less than 100 times annually since 2013.
