FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The Allen County Plan Commission has delayed action on a proposed development plan for the southwest portion of the county for 60 days.

The News-Sentinel reports the commission seems “uncomfortable” with the plan, which would update one created shortly after the General Motors plant was built in the 1980s.

The original plan encourages growth to the south and west of the plant, because it would limit any industrial developments to the north of it and could thus “jeopardize (the plant’s) long-term viability.”

Earlier this year a Michigan-based group, Crown Enterprises, proposed building a distribution center north of the plant, which led to nearby residents protesting the facility. Residents are protesting the facility because of concerns about traffic and noise.

Eventually that proposal was struck down by the County Commission, but the developer has since sued.

The 60-day delay is so the county’s Advisory Committee and Planners can review the proposal.
