FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A member of the Fort Wayne City council is trying to find some funding for riverfront development that would shrink a plan to increase the local income tax by 0.15%.

2nd District Councilman Russ Jehl is asking for $3.2-million per year from the Capital Improvement Board. The News-Sentinel reports that he filed the funding request Friday, specifically asking for the CIB’s already-existing annual riverfront fundnig allotment to continue indefinitely.

That wouldn’t do away with the need for an income tax hike of .15% to pay for Phase 2 and Phase 3 of the massive development project, but would reduce it, although he doesn’t say by how much.

The Council is expected to vote on the current tax increase proposal on July 11th.
