INDIANAPOLIS (WOWO): The Indiana Department of Transportation has awarded Allen and DeKalb counties $1 million each in road-funding grants.

The money is part of the Community Crossings Matching Grant Program, which works to improve Indiana’s roads and bridges. A total of $100 million were given to Indiana towns, cities and counties this year.

INDOT matches up to $1 million when towns, cities and counties invest in road and bridge repairs. Counties with populations below 50,000 and cities and towns with populations below 10,000 receive a 75/25 percent match. Meanwhile, counties with populations greater than 50,000 and cities and towns with populations greater than 10,000 receive a 50/50 percent match.

The program has awarded nearly $400 million in state matching funds for road projects since it was created in 2016.
