FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A man is dead following an accident on Broadway, but Fort Wayne police believe he died from a drug overdose.

At a little before noon on Sunday, officers responded to an accident on Broadway near between Kinnaird and Packard where two vehicles going opposite directions collided. Police weren’t able to determine who caused the accident, partly because the man driving the victim fled the scene on foot.

The victim was found unconscious and was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. He didn’t appear to suffer any trauma from the accident itself.

Police believe he was being taken to a hospital because of a drug overdose, though it’s unclear what drug he took. The Allen County Coroner’s Office will make the final determination on his death.

There are no reports of any other injuries, and there is no description of the driver that fled the scene.

Broadway between Kinnaird and Packard was closed while police investigated the accident scene.
