Affordable Housing On The Mind of Senator Todd Young

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (NETWORK INDIANA):  The U.S. Senate is on a legislative break at the moment, which allows senators to return to their respective states to meet with constituents.

Sen. Todd Young (R-IN) has been making many visits to various organizations over the last few weeks. One of those visits was on Thursday in South Bend where he spoke to a conference of realtors about some of his proposed legislation to create more affordable housing for Americans.

“A lot of businesses that are growing can’t grow because they can’t get enough people to locate in this area to take the jobs that are available,” Young said. “We want to remedy that problem right around here and across the state of Indiana.”

Realtors are especially concerned about a lack of affordable housing given GM’s latest investment in a new EV battery plant in New Carlisle. The concern is that many of the workers that might move to Indiana to take a job at that plant may choose to live in Michigan and commute across the state line.

Young said he has one bill in the works that would benefit both people moving and people who already live in areas where people can move to.

“I think there’s the most excitement about the neighborhood homes investment act,” Young said. “It allows owner occupants or other investors to acquire old homes that need a little work, fix them up, and then they receive a tax credit so they can make a modest profit on selling them on the market.”

Young said this would help accommodate people looking to move by increasing the number of quality homes available. He added that middle-income America is struggling to find better places to move and that Congress needs to act.

We have a President who is actively selling secrets to our enemies and this clown, Todd Young wants to worry about housing costs. Given that rates have risen due to inflation, he failed to even address Joe Biden’s policies that caused rates to skyrocket. The higher rates are definitely having a negative impact on housing costs! Yet not a word about that. Instead, he wants everyone to be a remodeler. I’d like to know what Young is smoking! The problem is him and the guy sitting in the WH. It is blatantly obvious that Todd Young refuses to tackle serious issues. He would rather stay away from real issues and focus on ‘bi-partisan BS! TY is a useless grifter! The US Senate is full of clowns like Young!

I’m not sure Backstabbing RINO Toad Young can think critically about anything. There is no place in the US Constitution that gives the federal government any authority to spend money out of the US Treasury for housing. There is something called an OATH OF OFFICE that Toad willingly took when entering the US Senate. It calls for him to protect and defend that document and our REPUBLIC. Yet he constantly votes for skeevy judges and others that do not intend to protect and defend our country. He constantly votes for gun control even though there a “SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED” clause right there on paper. Toad Young has lost any credibility he had. He willing gave it away to seek campaign cash and the accolades of the leftist DC-NY-LA press. When I see he has some policy he wants I immediately reject it because he has lost the ability to follow his oath, if he ever had it, and does not do what is within the Article I, Section 8, 18 enumerated powers of Congress. There is no housing clause there and he should not be spending time or money on that effort. That authority is left to the States or to The People under the 10th Amendment. Of course, I don’t thin Toady has read any of the constitution.

There would still be affordable housing if Wall Street hadn’t stripped would be homeowners of the ability to buy them. Its hard to compete in a market that allows institutional investors to borrow from the government at half the rate a consumer would pay and then make an all cash offer against a first time homebuyer. Its estimated that 20m of the 100m homes in America are investor owned. Just look at how many single family homes that companies like Invitation Homes, Starwood Waypoint, American Homes4 rent and others own – it’s disgusting! Don’t even get me started on what I -Buyer companies like ZILLOW, Redfin, Open Door and Offer Pad have done to run up home values and what did they get for their trouble? Billions in losses while they took homes from families in need. All of these companies should be taken to task if you really want to create affordable housing – put these greedy companies on your list to investigate and follow the trail back to Barack Obama and the Distressed Asset Stabilization program where it all started.
