Allen County Could Break Homicide Record Pending August Death

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP): Allen County ended 2013 with a record-tying 44 homicides, but a case that's still being reviewed by the coroner could make last year the county's deadliest year ever.

The Allen County Coroner's Office has yet to rule on the August death of 51-year-old Steven Turner.

His badly burned body was found inside the trunk of a car parked at an intersection. If Turner's death is eventually ruled as a homicide, it would make 2013 the city's deadliest year on record.

Allen County closed the year with 44 homicides, the same as in 1997 when it had a record number of homicides.

Of the county's 44 homicides last year, 42 of those were in the city of Fort Wayne.
