FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Time is running out for Allen County homeowners to claim tax breaks for their property.

Allen County Auditor Tera Klutz says applications for deductions must be finished no later than December 31st, and submitted to her office no later than January 5th.

Homeowners 65 or older should look into receiving the Senior Citizen Property Tax Deduction, which they can file for at the Allen County Auditor’s website, and those who built their homes and moved in during 2016 should also apply for the homestead deduction.

Klutz adds in that case, it’s because those who have their homes built don’t go through a traditional closing, when the deduction is usually applied.
