ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO): Allen County has a syringe service program.

The Allen County Syringe Services Program had a soft opening a couple weeks ago. Since it opened, there have been two visitors.

Now, the Fort Wayne-Allen County Department of Health is announcing the syringe program is open 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays and is located at 519 Oxford Street, Fort Wayne.

The goal of the program is to reduce the risk and transmission of HIV and Hepatitis C.

In October, the Indiana State Department of Health declared a public health emergency for Allen County, which allowed the Fort Wayne-Allen County Department of Health to establish a syringe services program.
