Baby unhurt in fall from 3rd-floor balcony

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — Police in South Bend say a 1-year-old baby wasn’t injured when he fell 20 feet from a third-floor apartment balcony.

Police were dispatched to the Miami Hills Apartments in the northern Indiana city about 2:30 p.m. Thursday.

Neighbors told police say the baby boy landed on grass and not the nearby concrete.

Police say the baby was playing on the balcony while the mother was doing chores outside, and slipped through the bars of the balony railing. Police say a second child also was on the balcony at the time.

Authorities say the incident was reported to the Indiana Department of Child Services.
