Ball State Economist Says August Employment Report is Scary

INDIANAPOLIS (WOWO): 169,000 new jobs were added last month, but a local economist says this isn't as good as it sounds. Economists had been expecting job expansion to be between 170,000 jobs to 200,000 jobs. The unemployment rate fell from 7.4 percent in July to 7.3 percent last month. Ball State economist Michael Hicks says the August employment situation has the worst economic news this year. He says the problem is the kind of new jobs that were created, which were mostly seasonal.
