INDIANA (WOWO): Boston Scientific plans to build a new global medical device distribution facility in Plainfield as part of a $138 million investment expected to create up to 300 jobs.
Mike Braun announced the project Wednesday, calling it another boost for Indiana’s growing life sciences industry.
The company plans to construct a 500-thousand-square-foot facility at Plainfield Innovation Park. State officials say the operation will support worldwide distribution of medical devices and include advanced logistics systems, light manufacturing and regulatory compliance operations.
Boston Scientific expects to break ground later this year.
The project ties into Braun’s recently announced plan to invest $1 billion over the next decade into Indiana’s agricultural and life sciences sectors, with a goal of creating 100-thousand high-wage jobs statewide.
Company leaders say the Plainfield facility will help support delivery of medical devices used to treat more than 48 million patients each year around the world.
Local officials say the investment also strengthens Plainfield’s push to grow its innovation and advanced manufacturing corridor south of Interstate 70.
