Boy, 17, Convicted in Shooting Death of Elkhart Teen

ELKHART, Ind. (AP) _ A 17-year-old boy has been convicted of murder in the December shooting death of another teen in Elkhart.

The Elkhart Truth reports the 17-year-old was found guilty by a jury Tuesday for the death of 16-year-old Ontario Brown Jr. Authorities say Brown was fatally shot at an apartment complex on Dec. 19, 2014.

The trial began Monday. A 16-year-old boy testified that he and Brown had walked to a friend's home and were approached by a group of five people. He said Brown was shot by the defendant after Brown fought another person in the group.

Defense attorney Peter Todd said it would be easy for an eyewitness to mistake his client as the shooter because it was nighttime and he was in a group.
