MADISON, Ind. (AP) — Southern Indiana crews have pushed a new 315-ton boat ramp into place along the Ohio River using six bulldozers that slowly nudged the ramp into position.

Onlookers watched Wednesday in Madison as the bulldozers worked in tandem to move the concrete ramp, which has six 15-foot-wide lanes for boat trailers.

Eric Lang with Land Consultants says the previous ramp had begun to fall below water level, causing some trailers to become stuck.

The new ramp is slated to open by next spring and will allow visitors to launch up to a 30-foot-long boat into the river.

The estimated $250,000 project is being paid for by a $150,000 federal grant and $50,000 from the city of Madison and the Madison Redevelopment Commission.
