Latest Unemployment Numbers are Out for Indiana, Unemployment Rate Inches Up

INDIANA, Ind. (WOWO): The latest unemployment numbers are out for Indiana and they show the Hoosier State's unemployment rate at it's highest level in nearly a year.

According to a report released Tuesday by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, the January unemployment rate for the state rose two-tenths of a percent to 6.0%. Spokesman Joe Frank says that's because more hopeful job seekers returned to the labor market.

Indiana saw an increase of 14,249 jobs and job seekers. Frank says the state labor force has grown by more than 85,000 in the past two years. He says the trade-transportation-utilities sector rose by 6700 jobs and the manufacturing sector rose by 1500 jobs. Those sectors led the job growth trend.

Indiana's unemployment rate remains higher than the national rate which was 5.5% for January.
