Catholic School Principal in Herx IVF Case Retiring

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The principal who led the local Catholic School at the center of the Emily Herx in vitro fertilization case is retiring.

Sandra Guffey of St. Vincent de Paul is stepping down at the completion of the school year according to a report in the Journal-Gazette.

In December, a federal court awarded Herx a $1.9 million judgment. She claimed the Fort Wayne-South Bend Diocese violated her civil rights. In 2012, Herx's contract was not because she underwent the procedure – a
procedure that violated church doctrine.

Guffey, according to the report, came under scrutiny for personal and professional issues.
