INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Some communities in central Indiana are posting signs and drafting ordinances to discourage door-to-door salespeople following a string of home and vehicle break-ins.
The Homeowners Association in the Geist area voted this week to spend $2,000 on the installation of “No Soliciting'' signs at every neighborhood entrance. Officials hope the signs will prevent burglars from approaching homes under the guise of solicitors.
Association president Tom Britt tells WISH-TV that groups of people have canvassed the area, looking for homes that would make easy targets, instead of selling products.
Homeowners in Lawrence also are dealing with robbers posing as solicitors, schemers and scammers. Officials recently passed an ordinance requiring all solicitors to get a permit from the city.
Neighborhoods on Indianapolis' south side have had problems with soliciting as well.
