City Utilities expects increase in water main breaks

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO) – As temperatures begin to warm up, City Utilities water maintenance crews are expecting an increase in water main breaks.

It’s believed that some pipes may have broken during the recent extreme weather conditions. But, the breaks will not be visible until it warms up this weekend.

Additionally, the quick freeze and thaw cycle can cause pipes to break.

If you notice a water main break, call 311 to report it.

This week’s winds may have also caused a build up of debris and trash in storm drains. As snow and ice start to melt, residents are encouraged to check drains and clear them, so the runoff doesn’t affect neighborhood streets.
