FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO) — The Allen County Coroner’s Office says human remains discovered by a fisherman in Spy Run Creek earlier this year belong to an unidentified woman.
According to officials, the remains were found on March 14 in Spy Run Creek in Fort Wayne. On Thursday, the coroner’s office announced the remains were determined to be those of a white woman of European descent believed to be in her late 30s or 40s.
Investigators say the woman was approximately 5 feet tall and likely died less than one year before her remains were discovered.
Authorities reported that no trauma was observed during the examination. However, the cause and manner of death remain under investigation.
According to WPTA, the coroner’s office says a DNA sample has been collected and submitted to the Indiana State Police for further analysis in hopes of identifying the woman.
The investigation remains ongoing.
