Council Tables Labor Funding Vote

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The Fort Wayne City Council has decided to avoid a vote on a push to keep taxpayers from having to pay top union officials.

Councilman Marty Bender proposed a bill Tuesday night that would bar the city from paying the salaries of the union reps in charge of the city's police and firefighter unions as well as do away with so-called “time banks” that allow union members to focus on union work while they're also on the clock for the city.

The Journal Gazette reports that some on the Council felt the bill was rushed, due to Bender being set to leave office at the end of the year, and it was tabled indefinitely.
