Downtown Dining District Gets Council Approval

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A new development for downtown Fort Wayne is moving forward.

The City Council last night approved a proposal for a so-called “Downtown Dining District” that will allow the city to issue special liquor licenses for new bars and restaurants in an attempt to entice more of those businesses to open close to the river. Our Partners in News at 21Alive report that the licenses come with a catch: they may cost less than a typical license but have to meet certain sales benchmarks and can't transfer or sell the licenses if they close down or move.

The idea passed with a unanimous vote.
