County official in Indiana charged with 37 counts of theft

VERSAILLES, Ind. (AP): A former Jennings County official faces numerous felony counts of theft and forgery.

Indiana State Police says former Jennings County deputy clerk and auditor Cathy Jo Robertson of North Vernon was arrested Thursday on 37 counts of theft and nine counts of forgery.

Authorities started investigating Robertson in 2013 when an audit of the county’s clerk and auditor’s offices determined funds went missing and unauthorized checks were issued when she worked for both offices.

The investigation determined that Robertson stole more than $61,000 from the clerk’s office between January 2009 and April 2011 and that she took more than $3,500 from the auditor’s office from July 2013 to October 2013.

Robertson is being held at the Jennings County Jail on a $25,500 bond. She’s scheduled to appear in court Feb. 29.
