Delphi to Celebrate Restoration of Freedom Bridge

DELPHI, Ind. (AP) – The restoration and reassembly of a historic bridge is now complete and the northern Indiana city of Delphi plans to celebrate its completion.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony and memorial dedication Saturday will recognize the restoration of the 1897 Freedom Bridge.

The Lafayette Journal & Courier reports (http://on.jconline.com/1d5xWpN ) that the structure sat on Conner Prairie's property in Fishers from 2001 until June 2013, when the pieces were sent out for restoration.

The 300-foot bridge was reassembled in September. It serves as a pedestrian walkway on the Wabash and Erie Canal Association's Monon High Bridge Trail over the Hoosier Heartland Highway.

The free ceremony open to the public begins at 1 p.m. with a dedication of the city's Veterans Memorial Plaza.
