More complaints about city trash collectors

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Problems persist with the City of Fort Wayne’s trash collector.

Red River Waste Solutions has been dealing with complaints ever since they took over in January, it seems. At that time, they blamed freezing temperatures and drivers that hadn’t learned new routes yet. But now it’s June.

“They need to get their stuff together,” says Joan Cushing, talking to our Partners in News at ABC 21. Her trash was picked up four days late this week, which she said she “should be happy” about.

The contractor now says they fell behind due to Memorial Day. Councilman Geoff Paddock is tired of the excuses:

“If we can’t get this done, we’re going to have to go out and find a company that will do this,” Paddock says. “People expect more of their city government.”

The Fort Wayne City Council is expecting answers from the contractor at their June 19th meeting. Red River has been fined once already, and will be fined again, for the delays.
