FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A woman was found dead inside a car parked in an alley on Esmond Street last night. FWPD Press Release follows:

Fort Wayne police responded to the 3000 block of S. Lafayette Street on the reported shooting at 11:30 p.m. Sunday night. Once on scene officers were directed to an alley in the 300 block of Esmond Street where they found a passenger car occupied by an unresponsive female. Medics pronounced her dead at the scene.

Detectives have learned that the victim was seen speaking to a male prior to neighbors hearing at least one gunshot. She had arrived in the area to pick up a family member who lived close by. Investigators are asking for the public’s help in this incident. If anyone living in the area heard or saw anything prior to police arriving contact Crime Stoppers at 436-STOP (436-7867).

An autopsy will be performed Monday to determine a cause and manner of death. This incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Coroner’s office and the Allen County Prosecutor’s office.
