FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO) — A Swayzee woman is facing multiple operating while intoxicated charges following a Tuesday morning crash near a Walgreens at the intersection of Dupont and Tonkel roads in Fort Wayne, according to Indiana State Police.
The crash happened around 8:20 a.m. on May 5th while an Indiana State Police trooper was patrolling the area. Police said the trooper observed a person performing CPR on another individual in a grassy area near the Walgreens and also noticed heavily damaged vehicles nearby.
The trooper stopped and assisted with CPR until paramedics arrived.
Investigators said Bailey Carver, 29, of Swayzee, was driving a red 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt eastbound on Dupont Road when the vehicle suddenly swerved left, crossed all lanes of traffic, drove over a raised concrete median, and entered the Walgreens parking lot before crashing into a parked white 2024 Hyundai Tucson.
Police said Kayla Brooks, 31, of Fort Wayne, was inside the Hyundai at the time of the crash. She suffered injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Carver also received emergency medical care at the scene before being transported by ambulance to a hospital.
During the investigation, troopers determined there was reason to believe drugs were a factor in the crash. The case was submitted to the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
Carver was charged with:
Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated Causing Serious Bodily Injury, a Level 5 felony
Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated with Endangerment, a Class A misdemeanor
Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated Controlled Substance, a Class C misdemeanor
Indiana State Police said an off-duty nurse, the Allen County Sheriff’s Department, and the Northeast and Huntertown fire departments assisted at the scene.
