Drop Box Break-In

Fort Wayne, Ind. – Sometime overnight on October 31, 2012, the City Utilities payment drop box, located on East Berry Street north of Citizens Square, was vandalized and broken into. The damage was discovered this morning shortly after 8:00 A.M., when customer service representatives went to retrieve overnight payments.

Some payments were in the box this morning but it is not known if any payments were taken from the drop box. City Utilities is asking anyone who may have dropped a payment in the box between 8:30 A.M Wednesday morning October 31, 2012 and 8:00 A.M. Thursday morning November 1, 2012 to call 427-1234 to confirm that your payment was received by Customer Service.

City Utilities is working with police and reviewing video from security cameras in the area. We are concerned that customers account numbers and checking account numbers could be compromised and encourage customers to not only call us but call their banks to alert them if they used the drop box in the past 24 hours.

Anyone having information about the break-in should call the Fort Wayne Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 436-STOP.
