E. Indiana Police Chief Accidentally Shoots Self

CONNERSVILLE, Ind. (AP) – An eastern Indiana police chief has suffered a flesh wound after accidentally shooting himself.

Connersville Police David Counceller refused treatment at the scene of the shooting at a gun store Saturday and drove himself to a nearby hospital, where he was treated for a flesh wound to his upper right thigh and released.

Counceller, who was off-duty at the time, tells the Connersville News-Examiner he was placing the gun in an unfamiliar holster and the trigger caught on some clothing and caused the handgun to discharge.

Owner Jim Wulff of Wulff's Gun Shop in Connersville says Counceller had removed his Glock handgun from his holster to compare it to another Glock at the store before the accidental shooting.
