Wayne County Food Plant Might Operate By July `15

RICHMOND, Ind. (AP) _ A top company executive says a food processing plant that's expected to bring 400 jobs to eastern Indiana should begin operations in July 2015.

Sugar Creek Packing Company Chief Financial Officer Tom Bollinger told the Wayne County Council that the company will invest $100 million in construction, equipment and land acquisition for the plant where workers will process pork and chicken products.

The Palladium-Item reports Bollinger went before the council Wednesday to ask for a slight restructuring of the company's bond agreement with the county, which the council approved.

Sugar Creek originally planned to begin limited production at the plant near Cambridge City last month, but last year delayed that until at least early 2015 because of changing plans for a sewage treatment plant.
