Elderly Resident Safe After House Fire

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO) – An elderly resident is safe after a house fire on Fort Wayne’s southeast side Saturday evening.

Firefighters were called to Gaywood Drive just after 6:30 p.m. following reports of heavy flames and smoke.

Dispatchers were told an elderly person might still be inside.

Neighbors broke through a front window and carried the resident to safety before crews arrived.

Firefighters brought the blaze under control in just over 30 minutes and remained on scene to extinguish remaining hot spots.
