Elkhart Man Facing Charges for Donating Plasma While Knowing he had HIV

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO): An Elkhart man is facing felony charges for donating plasma while knowing he had HIV.

31-year-old James Williams is facing one count of transferring contaminated body fluids and three counts of attempt to transfer contaminated body fluids, all of which are felonies.

Police say it was back in January when he was able to successfully donate plasma at the Biolife Plasma center in Elkhart, but only because he did not disclose having HIV in a pre-donation questionnaire. He even signed a document specifically stating anyone infected caught donating would be arrested. He is currently being held on $25,000 bond.

He admitted to making the donation. Meanwhile, no one was exposed to his plasma as it goes into holding for 60 days after collection.
