Federal Shutdown Raises Ind. Brush with Closure

INDIANAPOLIS (AP): The federal government's shutdown has prompted many states to tout their own ability to get things done and avoid the gridlock that's seized Washington. But Indiana had its own brush with closure two decades ago when state lawmakers came nearly failed to approve a budget. Fighting between former Democratic Governor Evan Bayh and the Republican-led Senate in 1993 brought the state close to being without a budget needed to operate.
